Discretized Voltage Control of an LTD

Sponsored by Nevada National Security Sites

A stage-aware controls architecture for selecting LTD cell configurations between pulses, then issuing deterministic triggers for programmable output-voltage levels.

  • FPGA enable/disable control for cells 2–4, with cell 1 serving as the base-firing cell
  • Common brick configuration within each stage and independent configuration from stage to stage
  • Diagnostic/status monitoring, voltage selection, and STM32-to-FPGA communication

Pulsed Power and Energy Laboratory

Undergraduate Research Assistant · University of Texas at Arlington

Developing, testing, and debugging control and diagnostic systems for pulsed-power platforms, including an electromagnetic railgun research system sponsored by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.

Developing controls for a Nevada National Security Sites-sponsored discretized LTD project, using STM32-to-FPGA communication to configure cell enable/disable states between pulses, coordinate stage triggers, support programmable voltage selection, and integrate diagnostic/status monitoring.

My work sits between hardware and control: I like understanding what a system is doing electrically, then building the logic that makes it repeatable, measurable, and easier to diagnose.

My interest in semiconductors has grown from learning how circuits behave to asking why devices behave the way they do—how materials, fabrication choices, and electrical characteristics shape performance. In the cleanroom, I’ve cleaned silicon wafers, spin-coated a phosphorus dopant, carried out diffusion steps, and measured sheet resistance with a four-point probe. Thermal oxidation and oxide characterization are next.
